A high-voltage cable having a cable conductor which is sheathed by conductor insulation and having a conductor screen which surrounds the cable conductor outside the conductor insulation carries insulation reinforcement, which is mounted on the conductor insulation, at an end or intermediate splicing point. The insulation reinforcement contains a multiplicity of electrode spheres arranged in a distributed manner therein. The voltage applied between the cable conductor and the conductor screen surrounding the conductor insulation is determined by the electrostatic capacitances between the electrode spheres in their behaviour.
