A toy construction set comprises various items of furniture, each of which is composed of given numbers of several different basic elements which can be plugged into at least support panels (1), of constant thickness and simple form; each panel is equipped with at least one grid with identical holes (2) passing through the thickness of the panel and symmetrical relative to the plane perpendicular to the mid point of the thickness of the panel and comprising an attachment means (10) at least in the vicinity of this plane whilst the said different basic elements which can be plugged into the support panels (1) comprise joining pieces having a height which is less than half the thickness of the panel and which are arranged in order to be attached in the holes. <IMAGE>
