PURPOSE:To enable mass scanning to be widely used, in a magnetic field type mass spectrometer which produces mass spectrum through acceleration voltage sweeping. CONSTITUTION:Within a deflecting magnetic field made by a piece of magnet, plural ion orbits whose Br values (product of a magnetic feild strength B and an ion orbital radius r) are different from each other, are provided in order to conduct the acceleration voltage sweeping for each orbit. In this way, a variable range can be far widely extended by changing the Br value than by changing the r value only. After all, ion beam emitted from an ion source slit 3 is divided into two orbits 8 and 8' by switching the D.C. voltage applied to a deflecting electrode 7 in two steps. These two ion orbits proceed via uniform magnetic field regions 4 and 4' having different Br values and meet again at a detecting slit 5. |
