Travelling dredger head vertical adjustment system - measures mud depth at point clear of head

The system adjusts the dredger head on a ship travelling along a waterway in the vertical direction, the head being on the end of a suction pipe movably mounted outboard of the ship and delivering the mud into a hopper via a pump and piping system. The depth (H') of the mud (9) is repeatedly measured at a point clear of the head (5), and the depth setting of the head is varied to take account of alterations in the depth of water and the variable distance of the head from the measuring equipment due to alterations in the suction pipe angle.
