The invention consists of a preamplifier for small signals generated in an inductive playback head by relative motion between the playback head and a magnetic recording medium having the signals recorded thereon. It comprises amplifying means having an input and an output, means for extending the small signal from the playback head to the amplifying means input, and feedback means connected from the output to the input of the amplifying means. This provides negative feedback of a portion of the signal applied to the input. The feedback means is operative to provide at the amplifying means output the integral of the signal within the playback head.
