A pin element, engageable with an electrical socket, comprises an outer conductive portion (10) for frictionally engaging a socket (15). The outer portion comprises a cluster of wires helically wound around an inner portion, the wires having different degrees of resiliency. The inner portion is pref. three helically wound oxygen free copper wires. The outer portion (10) pref. contains six wires of which three are of benyllium copper and three are of lower resiliency, oxygen free copper. When other numbers of wires are used, from 25% to 70% are of benyllium copper. The outer wires pref. all have the same diameter. - Any reduction is electrical conductivity due to the use of less resilient oxygen free wires which results in lower contact area with the socket is amply compensated for by an increase in overall current carrying capability of the OFC wires. The pin requires reduced engagement force.(7/8) |
