An intelligent repeater for a local area network and a method for relaying a signal of the repeater are provided to determine an optimum relaying location in a local area network environment like a UWB wireless transmission system and relay wireless communication by moving to a corresponding location. A USB receiving unit(21) measures a receiving level of a signal received from a host(AP). A location information processing unit(22) calculates location coordinate information of a relay device by using distance and time information of the relay device. A location information and signal strength storing unit(23) maps the location coordinate information of the relay device with the receiving level and store and manage the mapped information. A control unit(24) determines an optimum relay location and relays and controls wireless communication by referring to a corresponding receiving level of the location coordinate information of the relay device corresponding to device location coordinate information based on the location information and signal strength storing unit.
