PREPARING PROCESS FOR HYDRO CORTISON DERIVATIVES

17α-butyryloxy-11β-hydroxy-21-propionyloxy-4-pregnene-3, 20-dione(I) was prepd. by reacting hydrocortisone 17-butyrate with propionic acid anhydride. Topical applications of a salve contg. I to human caused marked vasoconstriction. I was absorbed by rat skin to a greater extent than hydrocortison or hydrocortison-17 butyrate. I was also less tonic following S.C. administration to rats than was betamathasone 17-valerate or hydrocortison 17-butyrate.
