The invention relates to an electrical system for motor vehicles, containing a battery (14), a dynamo and current collector points, which system according to the invention has at least one coupling component which is additionally electrically connected to the vehicle electrical system (5) and has two separate contacts for coupling the vehicle electrical system (5) to an extraneous power network. At least one coupling component is connected to one end of a twin-wire cable which can be rolled up onto a drum (9) and whose other end is connected to the vehicle electrical system (5). The drum (9) has an automatic rolling-up device for the cable and a releasable self-clamping device for stopping the movement of the cable. A coupling component can be capable of being connected either directly or via the transformer (13) to the vehicle electrical system (5) or to a charging device (15) or to additional current collectors (16) via a multiple change-over switch (12) which can be connected downstream of the cable drum (9). The cable drum (9) and/or the transformer (13) and/or the charging device (15) can be arranged in a housing which serves to receive and secure the battery (14). At least one coupling component is designed as a plug (6) and one coupling component as a socket (3), it being possible for the plug (6) to have additionally a spring-loaded safety pressure switch (11), the socket (3) to have a recess (11') of corresponding size and both to have a spring-loaded cover (4, 8) with securing claw. The multiple switch (12), the plug (6), the socket (3) and, if appropriate, the control knob (10) of the cable release device are arranged in an inwardly directed arching (1) of the external side wall of the motor vehicle and are covered by a pivotable and lockable flap (2) which completes the surface of the vehicle. <IMAGE>
