The invention relates to an apparatus for stretching a film web by means of clamping means, which run in guide tracks. For the longitudinal stretching, the spacing of the clamping means can be set independently from outside by special control means. The clamping means are for this purpose arranged displaceably on a driven and endlessly circulating chain-like tensioning member, which in itself is not extensible. For the displacing, gear wheels of the clamping means engage in the tensioning member. Each clamping means includes its own driving device, which effects the relative displacement with respect to the tensioning member by means of the gear wheels. The individual driving devices, for example gear mechanisms, can be influenced by control parts, for example control drive chains, arranged along the guide track.
