<p>A disposable filtration unit and method of manufacturing the same, the unit (10) comprising:
<UnorderedLists id="ula01" listStyle="none"><ListItem>a) an upright, generally cylindrical wall (12) having an open top (24) and a closed bottom (26);</ListItem><ListItem>b) a shoulder (28) which extends radially inwardly from the internal surface of the cylindrical wall (12) intermediate the top (24) and bottom (26) thereof, which divides the internal volume, as defined by the cylindrical wall (12), into an upper reservoir (18) for receiving the liquid to be filtered and a lower receptacle (20) for receiving the filtrate, and which defines a first opening (32- in Figure 2) therethrough providing communication between the reservoir (18) and receptacle (20);</ListItem><ListItem>c) a perforated support plate (42,44) on the shoulder (28) and sealed about its periphery to the internal surface of the cylindrical wall (12);</ListItem></UnorderedLists></p><p>d) a collar (46) formed integral with and depending from the support plate (42, 44) and extending through the first opening (32) and into the receptacle (20); and</p><p>e) a sheet-like filter medium (56) on the support plate (42, 44) with the periphery of the filter medium (56) being fixed to the support plate (42, 44),</p><p>wherein the shoulder (28) is formed integral, and being moulded together, with the wall (12), so as to form a unitary structure. The unit (10) may be provided with a pouring spout (22) which is formed integral with the cylindrical wall (12) and opens into the lower receptacle (20), this pouring spout (22) including a breathing tube (38) which communicates with the receptacle (20) at a point remote from the spout (22) and adjacent shoulder (28).</p> |
