Smelting oven with inductive heating, for low conductivity materials - e.g. silicon, has insulating crucible and central conductive rod

The smelting oven for low conductivity materials, uses an insulating crucible (8) which is surrounded by an inductive heating coil (6) and which contains an electrically conductive rod (5) dipping into the material contd. in the crucible (8). Pref. the conductive rod (5) extends along the central axis of the cylindrical crucible (8) and has a central bore contg. a thermoelement. The bottom end of the conductive rod (5) may simultaneously act as a plug for an outlet in the base of the crucible (8). The latter may be made of quartz glass, while the conductive rod is made of tungsten. The smelting oven can be used for silicon and exhibits an even temp. distribution and low heat radiation losses.
