1520117 Leaching nickel INCO Ltd 27 July 1976 [4 Aug 1975] 32535/75 Heading C1A Nickel is leached from a particulate nickelcontaining sulphide material by forming a slurry of the material with an aqueous copper-bearing solution containing at least 10 g/l of Cu, introducing chlorine into the slurry while monitoring the pH, and discontinuing the introduction of chlorine when the pH has decreased to a predetermined level indicative of the onset of sulphate formation, e.g. to a value of 0 to - 1. The resulting solution may be treated to cement out the copper and then used for recovery of Ni by electrowinning; the spent electrolyte may be recycled to the leach. The starting material may be a nickel matte having 19-27% of S by weight and which may also contain Pt, Pd, Au, Rh and/or Ru, these remaining unleached.
|
