The mechanical device for connecting flat components, such as wooden panels and the like, at right angles has a cylindrical body which comprises two halves (1, 1') and in which a small cylinder (7) is arranged transversely. In the region of one end, the said cylinder has a toothed ring (11) and, approximately in the centre, a shaped seat (8) for accommodating a mushroom-shaped end (17) of a connecting spigot (18) provided with a likewise mushroom-shaped other end (22). Arranged eccentrically to the axis of the cylindrical body is a worm (12) in engagement with the toothed ring (11). By rotating the worm (12), the two halves (1, 1') of the cylindrical body are firmly clamped and the firm connection of the components (16, 21) via the connecting spigot (18) effected. <IMAGE>
