PURPOSE:To enhance the driving precision of a lens, by detecting the driving direction of the focusing mechanism of the lens in the first optical focus detector and driving the focusing mechanism of the lens so as to make a signal of high- band components of the signal obtained from an image pickup element maximum. CONSTITUTION:When a lens focusing mechanism is placed in a region A, it is discriminated that the driving direction of the motor of an optical focus detector 21 and a direction detector 28 is the direction of an arrow P, and the motor is driven. Since the output signal of a peak detector increases according as the time elapses, the output of a subtractor 27 becomes a positive signal, and the motor is driven continuously. When the lens focusing mechanism enters into a region B, the output of the subtractor 27 becomes 0, and the motor is stopped, and thus, the lens is focused to an object. When the lens focusing mechanism is placed in a region C, the lens is focused by the same operation. |
