<p>Dry powder added directly to the casting mould comprises Al, flux of powdered glass or glass constituents, lime and MnO2. Specif. the compsn. also contains ferrosilicon and/or calcium silicon, fluorite and/or cryolite, and opt. alkali orthosilicate and nitrate, esp. KNO3. The additive forms a fluid slag which coats the surfaces of the mould preventing adherence of solidified metal. Ingots of smooth, crack-free surfaces are produced, and have minimal losses during rolling which proved expensive with alloyed stainless steel constituents.</p> |
