PURPOSE:To make a copier small-sized and at the same time to use the deformed paper, by controlling the reciprocating motion of an exposure optical system with the rear edge detection signal of the transfer paper. CONSTITUTION:The output of a paper feed start detector 23 is supplied to timers Ta-Tc having different operating times by means of switches Sa-Sc that receive the make by an operation mode button. The output signals of these timers plus the output signal of a temporary stop detector 11 are processed through flip-flops FF1, FF2 and then open a reciprocating clutch 27 via an NOR gate G1 to stop a slit exposure optical system. At the same time, the output of the FF2 that works by the detector 11 is supplied to a reciprocating clutch 28.
