The multi-core optical cable is manufactured from individual light wave conductors (LW1,LW2,etc) which are paid out from the desired number of supply spools (VS1,VS2 etc) at the input side of the machine. The conductors are pulled from the spools by a positive friction roller system (ZTV), which imparts a length thrust to the conductors, so that they reach the following processing equipment with a pre-tension. The conductors (LW1,LW2,etc) leave the pull-off system and enter capillary tubes (KR1,KR2,etc) slightly larger internally than the conductor diameters. From these, they are fed to the outlet of an extruder (EX), where the protective sheath (SH) is formed, together with tensioning threads (ZE) necessary to give the finished cable its strength. As the conductors leave their respective capillaries, they take on a wavy or coiled configuration which gives the desired over-length. A filling medium (FM) also fed into the sheath at the same time, keeps the conductors in position inside the sheath, and retains the over-length necessary to allow the cable to be flexed without straining the cores.
|
