<p>1307157 Expanding pulley gear CLAUSING CORP 19 April 1971 [6 April 1970] 24571/71 Heading F2D An infinitely variable expanding pulley gear comprises an electric motor 11 driving via a flexible sleeve coupling 22, 23 an input shaft 12 on which is keyed an hydraulically controlled expanding driving pulley 13 which drives via a "V"-belt 14 a usual type spring-loaded expanding driven pulley 16 on an output shaft 17. Each of the driving and driven expanding pulleys has an axially fixed flange 31, 71 and an axially movable flange 32, 72 connected to their respective shafts 12, 17 by a common key 33, 73 respectively, the axially fixed flanges 31, 71 having integral split hubs 37, 38 (Fig. 3) by which they are bolt clamped to their respective shafts and keys, whilst the axially movable flanges 32, 72 are freely slidably mounted on their respective shafts by axially spaced bushings 44 of low-friction, self-lubricating plastics such as Delrin filled with Teflon fibres, located and snapped in grooves in the hubs 43, 76 of the flanges 32, 72, whereby the bushes completely encircle the shaft and key (Fig. 4). Axial movement of the flange 32 is effected hydraulically for ratio change by fluid pressure supplied via a pipe 58 and interconnecting duct 57, to cylinders 56 to operate a number of pistons 54 connected to a common ring 59 which thrusts via a bearing 62 on the axially movable flange 32. For rapid response to ratio change and starting and stopping &c., the driving and driven shafts 12, 17 and pulleys 13, 16 are formed of aluminium, the shafts being anodized to give a hard surface wear resistant coating, and the single one-piece keys 33, 73 are of stainless steel.</p> |
