<p>Claims are made (a) for the use as diesel engine fuel of liq. animal, vegetable or mineral fats, with oxygen (not air) as the oxidant; and (b) for the necessary mechanical modification of the engine. Originally solid fats can be used if mixed with a solvent, e.g. methylated spirit. The chief modifications are to the piston rings and to the air inlet valve, which is replaced by a solenoid-controlled oxygen inlet valve. Used in diesel engines of all sizes, including those for motor vehicles and for electric power generation. The fuel is unaffected by the crude oil shortage. The exhaust gases are harmless and specifically lead-free.</p> |
