<p>The sleeve valve engine has controlled inlet and outlet timing in an internal-combustion engine. Each cylinder has inlet and exhaust ports shut at set periods by valves dependent on the piston position. These valves consist of perforated rings (11,13) rotated by an indexing drive actuated by a linear motor (17), the latter controlled by a computer programmed as a function of the operating cycle. Each cylinder liner (2) can have a protruding central case (5) with annular ribs (6,7) opposite grooves (8,9) in the internal faces of the cylinder block, acting as guides for the rings and linear motors, whose stators are fixed to the block.</p> |
