The deep body temperature in female mammal livestock, such as cows, is monitored by the use of a battery- powered radio-telemetry temperature-measuring device 26, of a size which is suitable for insertion into the uterine canal 12, and which is carried by an expandable anchor 10 of approximately the same size in its collapsed condition as the telemetry device. The anchor is held together and inserted with the telemetry device attached thereto into the vagina to a depth at which the unit, thus constituted, lies in proximity to the cervix 14. The anchor is expanded in situ and the temperature is then monitored daily from a remote external point. <IMAGE>
