The hydraulic brake limiter valve has a stepped piston (21) operating a shut-off valve with a fixed valve seat (37) and a spring loaded valve element. The valve element is linked to the stepped piston by a shaft (42) through a bore in the fixed housing, eliminating a bore through the stepped piston. The valve operates without friction and provides a precise action. A ring shaped pressure chamber (33) on one side of the stepped piston is linked to the other side of the shut-off valve by a compensating duct (45).
