A method of reducing the discharge of harmful gaseous and/or dusty substances in flue gases or other gas discharges from industrial plants or furnaces by hot-recycling and condensation- sorption is claimed. Pref. the process is carried out to reduce the SO2 content in the gas by passing it through a catalytic converter consisting of a platinum-asbestos or vanadium pentoxide grating, plates, pipes, or ducts, in order to convert the sulphur dioxide into sulphur trioxide and then, in the presence of water vapour, into H2SO4. The catalytic converter is pref. heated to the most effective surface temp. The flue gas or waste air cooler is pref. regulated to provide a discharge temperature of approx. 0 deg.C. Between the catalytic converter and the cooling unit, water, water vapour or steam, alkaline or acidic chemical substances may be continuously added in order to increase, reduce, acidify or neutralize the condensate. Process improves the quality of discharges to atmosphere from industrial plants and furnaces.
|
