The mechanism is intended for winding e.g. textile fabric, foil material etc. to form rolls on alternately driven winding shafts at two or more winding stations. It comprises a winding head which is movable between the stations and carries two pairs of guide rollers arranged with their gaps vertically above one another and a cutter between the pairs. The head is vertically movably guided in a carrier which is itself horizontally movably guided on rails forming part of a fixed frame. The arrangement permits moving the head into positions in which the roller gaps are vertically above one or the other shaft axis.
