<p>The union is for use between two similar pipes which are set at a slight distance apart. It has an annular elastic seal, and is particularly for the exhaust of an i.c. engine. The pipe ends are of the same cross-section as the remainder of them, and the seal is secured to each end along a peripheral line by the radial pressure from a clamp. One or more removable stops locate the seal in the axial direction. The seal can be a cylindrical sleeve with edges beaded over inwards in a U-shape and fitting against the pipe ends, while the clamp is an axially-split cylinder fitting closely round the seal and fixed in relation to it in the axial direction.</p> |
