1-(2-Allyloxyphenoxy)-3-isopropylamino-2-propanol is prepared by removing the groups X1 and/or X2 from a compound of the formula in which one of the groups X1 and X2 is a hydroxy group esterified by a strong inorganic or organic acid and the other is hydrogen or a hydroxy group esterified by a strong inorganic or organic acid, with formation of the double bond between the two adjacent carbon atoms. If desired, the free compound obtained is converted into a salt or a salt obtained is converted into the free compound or into another salt.
