The machine, for sorting esp. rollers, has a separating wheel with recesses. Each recess has an electromagnet (4). Two slopes (7,7') are located near the top of the wheel and near the bottom to accept the rods as they leave the recesses in the wheel. Rods attracted by the electromagnets are held by them and guided onto the upper slope. Rods not attracted to the electromagnets, e.g. because of their weight or material, fall to the bottoms of the recesses and are carried onto the lower slope. Several such wheels may be provided extending along the rods. The slopes lead to containers.
