[Also in Division F2] A tube suitable for winding glass filaments comprises at least one spirally wound inner ply 21 of paper, and a spirally wound outer ply 32 of resin impregnated non-woven textile material having a hard, irregularly roughened surface, the tube being flexible to permit longitudinal folding for removal from a wound package of glass filaments. The inner ply may comprise two spirally wound plies of paper, the outer layer having passed through a bath of adhesive. The inner plies are wound with edges in abutting relationship and the outer non-woven ply is wound with edges in overlapping relationship. The plies are preferably wound at an angle between 35 and 50 degrees to the winding mandrel. |
