Solid fuel low-emission firing system - uses fire-box separate from storage chamber for fuel

The firing system for a stove or boiler (100) gives low-emission combustion of solid fuels, the firebox (1) and the storage chamber (5) for the fuel being separate from each other. The fuel can be arranged to be fed to the firebox periodically in small quantities, and combustion air can be delivered both above and below the grate, the controls for air and fuel supply being interlocked. The quantity of air delivered above the grate can be such that the fumes from the firebox contain free oxygen. The design avoids heavy smoke emission due to sudden stoking with large quantities of fresh fuel.
