High speed seal for rotating shaft - has outer seal face with threaded pattern to pump fluid away from seal surface

The high speed seal for a rotating shaft has the moulded sealing ring (4) held between the shaft (3) and the housing wall (1) by a metal insert ring (5) in the centre of the ring and with angled sealing lips (17) on the outer face of the wall. The outer surface of the seal has a threaded pattern (15) while the inner surface (10) has a series of parallel ring ridges to contain the fluid. The seal rotates with the shaft and the outer threaded pattern is pitched so that fluid is pumped away from the lips and back into the vessel. The seal accommodates manufacturing tolerances as well as shaft vibrations without danger of leaks. It seals over a wide range of speeds from zero.
