PURPOSE:To eliminate the copying defects owing to noncoincidence of the sizes of an original and transfer paper and improve copying efficiency by detecting the length of the first sheet original and selecting the long one when the transfer sheet shorter than the original is being fed. CONSTITUTION:A transfer material P is fed by a feed roller 30, and is detected with a detecting element 74 in a position A. Rollers 56, 57 are revolved by this signal, whereby an original O is sent to a conveying path. When the original O reaches a position B, the delivery of the original is detected by a detecting element 60. This detection signal is discriminated of whether the 1st sheet or not by a predetermined electric circuit. When it is the 1st sheet, the length of the original is measured with the detecting element 60, and the cassette of the transfer material corresponding to the length is selected; at the same time, the image forming cycle with the copying of the 2nd and subsequent sheets is determined, and the operating period of a photosensitive drum 8 is determined. Thereby, the correct copying may be made from the 2nd sheet even when the selection of the transfer paper was wrong. |
