A non-woven fabric comprising filaments of a polyester or copolyester, in which the filaments have been deposited individually or in groups such that there are parallel and intersecting filaments, and in which the coefficient of variation of the filament or filament group separation is at least 100%. This fabric can be used as a secondary backing for a tufted carpet.
