The anti-skid protection for motor vehicles comprises a disc which is rotatably mounted on a swivel arm (12) and to which a plurality of chain elements (3) are attached. The disc (23) can be moved into frictional contact with the tyre of the motor vehicle by means of the swivel arm (19). The chain elements (3) of the disc (23) which is rotating in this way are thrown under the tyre by the centrifugal force. The disc (23) is mounted by means of a ball bearing on a fixed shaft (17) which protrudes from the swivel arm (12). A steel ring (19) is connected to a hub sheath (16) of the disc (23) via a slightly sprung rubber ring (21) with a hardness of approximately 45 Shore.
