PURPOSE:To enhance the strong-discharge characteristics and the discharge capacity of an alkaline battery by adding a given amount of metal mercury to mercuric oxide which is used as an active material. CONSTITUTION:A positive mixture 1 of an alkaline battery contains mercuric oxide as an active material, which is added with metal mercury, the ratio of which to the mercuric oxide is 100-30,000ppm. In order to obtain the positive mixture, not less than 5wt% of metal mercury is added to mercuric oxide to make a mixture, and the mixture is subjected to vacuum distillation to separate nearly all the metal mercury. Thus the ratio of metal mercury to the former mercuric oxide is adjusted to be 100-30,000ppm. Following that, the positive mixture 1 is prepared from this mercuric oxide which is added with metal mercury, by a generally known method. |
