Disclosed is an electrical resistance furnace and manufacturing plant for the preparation of silicon carbide. A resistance core of carbon is horizontally inserted within a load of silicious and carbon material. The core and load are of broken ring configuration and current is supplied to the resistance core by means of electrodes.
