The locking element (2) e.g. a bolt set in a cylinder guide which can lock the heel of the ski boot to the ski for downhill travel is displaceable between the locked and detent positions in a guide (1) which runs parallel to the surface of the ski. The locking element can be pushed into a recess (16) of the boot heel (15) which extends out from the rear heel edge parallel to the tread of the heel (15) and into the heel (15) itself. The locking element is pref. pressed into the locked position by a spring tension. It is easy to provide a recess in boots after their mfr.
