Effluent water treatment to removed soluble proteins and fats, in which the water is acidified (e.g. with H2SO4) to pH 4.0 (pref. 3.5 - 2.5), a dissolved gas (e.g. air) is released to form minute bubbles which floats undissolved material which is then removed by scraping, and the pH is then lowered e.g. by adding lime, to ppte dissolved protein which pptes. out and can be recovered. Process is esp. useful for treating slaughter house effluents etc. contg. large amts. of blood, giving excellent removal of hemoglobin and lowering the COD of the water.
