An inexpensive, disposable, ovenproof container is produced by molding a contoured base 10 in a die 12 with suction ports 14 from an aqueous slurry of non-browning, substantially 100% bleached kraft wood pulp, and drying under pressure using heated mating dies. A liner is formed by bonding to the base 10 a 0.5-2.0 mil thick film 16 of thermoformable, substantially amorphous, substantially unoriented polyethylene terephthalate having an M.W. believed to be above 15,000. The film 16 is bonded to the base 10 by pre-heating the base, rapidly preheating the film 16 using a plate 18, then quickly pressing the film 16 into contact with the base 10 at 300-375 DEG F using a vacuum of about 50.8mm Hg applied through the base 10 for no longer than about 1 second, and finally cooling to prevent shrink separation of the liner from the base. <IMAGE> |
