<p>NEW MATERIAL:An alpha-(2-quinolinooxy)propionic acid anilide shown by the formula I. USE:A herbicide. Especially one for paddy fields. Having about four times the weeding activities of a anologous compound shown by the formula X, namely, a small amount of the herbicide about 1/4 the amount of the anologous compound, exhibits the same weeding effect. The herbicide has hardly phytotoxicity to rice, and possesses extremely high effect on not only annual broad leaf plants but also perennial weeds occurring frequently in paddy fields. PROCESS:A carbostyryl shown by the formula II is reacted with an N-phenyl-alpha- halogenopropionamide shown by the formula III in the presence of a dehydrohalogenating agent in an inert solvent, e.g., methyl ethyl ketone to give a compound shown by the formula I.</p> |
