PURPOSE:To obtain a base material having high water-proofing and water repellent properties, by contacting a paraffin emulsion and a basic inorg. material or an org. fibrous material under an alkaline condition. CONSTITUTION:(A) A paraffinic hydrocarbon with m.p. of 40-80 deg.C and (B) an oxidized paraffin with acid value of 10-70 in an amount of 0.03-1.0 times that of (A) are emulsified in water of which an amount is 1-20wt% to a total amount of (A) and (B) in the presence of a sucrose aliphatic acid ester of which an amount is 1-20wt% to a total amount of (A) and (B) to obtain a paraffin emulsion. Subsequently, to this paraffin emulsion, a compound of a Group I-III element of the Periodic Table (e.g. NaOH, KOH) is added to adjust said emulsion to an alkaline condition and this emulsion is contacted with a base material selected from a basic inorg. material, such as cement mortar or rockwool, or an org. fibrous material, such as a wood fiberboard or a fiber fabric. |
