A master plate for posters and labels has a magnetic plate (1) set in a surround (5) forming the cover of a tray (2) with different sizes of compartment. Each compartment holds different characters which can be assembled on the top plate and photocopied. The characteris are plastic moulded, impregnated with magnetic dust. They can include trade marks, company headings etc. and enable unskilled labour to assemble letter headings, label cards or any other item. The metal plate has a raster for accurate layout and a simple photocopier provides the copies.
