The rotary drum, such as may be used in a drum drier or mixer, has at least one bearing ring (3) and/or gear ring secured on the outer drum wall (2) via resilient distance pieces (6). Tensioning devices such as axial screw bolts (8) with clamping plates (7) are provided which permit the distance pieces (6) to be expanded in radial direction by tightening the screws (8). The clamping plates (7) may be arranged in pairs, one against each end face (6a, b) of a distance piece (6), whilst the pairs are equally spaced around the circumference of the drum wall (2) in the annular space between wall (2) and ring (3) without contacting either.
