<p>The muff comrpises a retaining body (2) of rigid alloy and a tubular joining element (3) of a more ductile metal which is able to fit closely around the conductor (5). The slightly tapered end (6) of the joining element (3) is wedged inside a conical bore (10) within the retaining cover (12). A captive tapered threadplate (16) mounted on a constriction (18) of the joining element (3) is employed to apply a stretching force to the latter, ensuring firm contact with the conductor (5). After one such stretching operation the threadplate is destroyed.</p> |
