In order to produce insulation-paper layers having spacer rods which are mounted on a paper web, the paper web, which consists of cellulose paper, is coated with a non-woven fabric consisting of polyamide. The two layers are drawn together over a hot plate and spacer rods consisting of transformer board are placed onto the paper at the point on the hot plate at which the polyamide is in a fluid state. After subsequent cooling, the polyamide solidifies and the spacer rods remain adhered. The insulating-material strip obtained can be supplied directly for transformer production, since no waiting time is necessary for curing or drying.
