<p>The gear changing system for a lorry with eight forward speeds, a forwards inching speed and one reverse speed, includes a cranked arm between the gear lever and the remotely positioned gear box. The gear lever is swung to and fro between two lines of gates, and also in a direction at right angles, to change up or down. The cranked arm has a universal joint at the gear lever end, and a second universal joint at the other end. This rotates a vertical shaft about its axis combined with rotation about another axis at right angles. An extension of the cranked arm beyond the second universal joint, on this second axis carries a locating member which consists of an arm with locating balls at its tips which engage in recesses around a curved track.</p> |
