[Also in Division F4] A nuclear reactor plant has heat exchanger elements E (see Division F4) situated below the reactor core R in a duet K in a pressure-tight concrete or like structure B. The reactor coolant, e.g. a gas or vapour flows through the elements in a downward direction and is recirculated to the core through pipes L by impellers U. Cover plates A seal off the areas between the elements, and between the elements and the walls of the duct. The elements have inlet and outlet headers for the heat receiving medium, preferably water, at the bottom below the cover plates so they are subject to the least thermal stress and shielded to some extent against radio-activity. |
