<p>In process for purificn. and conditioning of water in which edible shellfish or fish are to be cultured in a tank. Water from the tank is continuously recycled via an oxygenator and returned to thetank. The oxygenator preF. comprises a contacting column through which the water percolates via plastic packing. A current of air is blown upwards through the column, counter-current to the downward trickles of water. Before returning to the tank, pref. before oxygenation, the water can be filtered, sterilised, treated with additives etc. The water temp. can be adjusted by heating or cooling. Cooling of water dicharged from the column can be increased by adjusting the air blower output for increased evaporation. Water returned to the tank is pref. cooled sufficiently to ensure that it sinks to the bottom of the tank and displaces water already in the tank. Used in cultured prodn. of edible fish including sewater shellfish, such as oysters, and mussels, and fresh water fish such as trout, salmon, eels, etc. Increased output of high quality prod. with inexpensive, easily controlled installation is obtd.</p> |
