Compounds of Formula I wherein R 1 is Cl, Br, F, CF 3 , C 1-4 alkyl or C 1-4 alkoxy, R 2 and R 3 are each H, Cl, Br, F or C 1-4 alkyl and R 4 is H, Cl, Br, F; C 1-4 alkyl or C 1-4 alkoxy and at least one of R 1 , R 2 and' R 3 is other than H and is ortho to the NH group, and salts thereof, are' prepared from the isotins of Formula IV either by reduction with hydrazine or semicarbazide and an alkali metal hydroxide or alcoholate according to the Wolff - Kishner method or by hydrolysis to a glyoxylic acid V which is then reduced by the same method and in each case optionally converting thesalt obtained into the free acid or other salts. Compounds of Formula IV above are prepared by cyclization of the compound of Formula III / prepared by reaction of oxalic acid chloride and the corresponding N-arylanaline derivative, some of which are obtained by decarboxylation of the corresponding ortho-carboxylic acids obtained by copper/KOH fusion of an orthochlorobenzoic acid and a substituted analine.</p> |
