The needle valve for controlling the flow of gases or liquids through a glass tube has a right angled tube with one branch controlled by the pointed tip (6) of the closure member. This has a stem with an external left hand screw thread which screws into a left hand threaded hole in the bottom of the vertical valve spindle. This spindle has a set of grooves (3) around it near the bottom, for a set of sealing rings (4). The top of the spindle has a bulbous head (2) locked inside a screw cap (8) which has an internal screw thread for the threads (14) around the top of the vertical part of the glass tube (13). The bulbous top is clamped between an insert (9) and a screwed plug (10) inside the screw cap. The bottom of the cap carries a short auxiliary cap (12) trapping a locking ring (11) inside.
